In the view of the recent terror threats from armed groups, the security forces have been put on high alert in the red zones of Karachi to avert the danger. The vehicles are being inspected and the commuters and passers-by are being frisked by the forces.

According to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South, Javed Akbar Riaz, various intelligence reports have raised security concerns in the zed zones of Karachi, especially the consulates of the foreign countries. To avert the danger, the security forces have been put on high alert in these areas. The threats allegedly came from the armed groups that attacked the Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi last month.

Karachi Stock Exchange attack was claimed by Baloch Liberation Army, or BLA. Same group attacked the Chinese consulate in Karachi, in November 2018.

BLA is an armed group hails from Balochistan, which is striving for regaining the independence of the region from Pakistan. Their main targets are Pakistani security forces, government installations and Chinese engineers and projects initiated in Balochistan, “which are exploiting their national resources without the consent of the aboriginal inhabitants of the region”, BLA claims.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South, Shiraz Nazir, the security has been tightened around the Chinese and Russian consulates in Clifton, Karachi.

According to the DIG, four additional police mobiles and personnel have been deployed in these areas. Armoured and patrolling vehicles have been deployed and the forces are ready to deal with any kind of threat.

The DIG further said the security has been tightened around the consulates of the foreign counties, especially Russia and China. He said that the forces have started to inspect vehicles and frisk passers-by. He hinted that the process could continue for a few days.
