A man in Balochistan’s Dera Bugti district was hospitalised with severe burns after an apparent self-immolation attempt that local residents linked to unemployment and financial hardship.
The man was identified as Rahmatullah Bugti, a resident of Mandir Colony in the Sui area.
Local residents said the incident took place in Bugti Colony near Fazlu Hotel, where they found him injured and shifted him to hospital for treatment.
They added that Rahmatullah had been unemployed and facing economic difficulties before the incident.
Dera Bugti is home to some of the region’s major gas fields, including Sui, Pir Koh, Loti and Uch.
Residents say the district has supplied gas to different parts of Pakistan for decades, while many local communities continue to face unemployment and limited access to health care, education and other basic services.
Authorities have not issued an immediate statement on the incident.
