Two people have allegedly been subjected to enforced disappearance in Quetta and Khuzdar, while another person who had been missing was reportedly released from a jail in Karachi.
Qadir Bakhsh, 66, son of Muhammad Ramzan and a resident of Baghbana, Khuzdar, was allegedly detained by Pakistani forces on RCD Road in Khuzdar at around 9 p.m. on September 6, 2026, and subsequently forcibly disappeared.
At a press conference on Thursday, his family demanded his immediate return or appearance before a court. They said he was detained near BC Camp while travelling from Baghbana to Khuzdar, adding that repeated approaches to the police, administration and other authorities had yielded no information about his whereabouts or well-being.
Any allegations against him should be presented before a court, they said, and he should be afforded the right to a legal defence.
Meanwhile, Zohaib Gul Baloch, 19, son of Gul Mir and a student residing in Quetta’s Killi New Muslim Abad area, was allegedly forcibly disappeared from his home at around 1 a.m. on January 1, 2026.
In a separate development, Shehroz Qayyum, son of Abdul Qayyum and a resident of Malir, Karachi, who was allegedly forcibly disappeared on March 31, 2026, was reportedly released from Malir District Jail on October 7.
Enforced disappearances remain a longstanding issue in Balochistan. Families, rights groups and political organisations have for years alleged that individuals are detained by Pakistani forces and intelligence agencies and subsequently held incommunicado, while authorities have denied involvement in many reported cases.
The Human Rights Council of Balochistan (HRCB) said in its annual report for 2025 that it documented 1,482 cases of alleged enforced disappearance, a 79 per cent increase compared with the previous year.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee’s (BYC) Human Rights Department also said in its semi-annual report that many cases were documented weeks or months after the alleged disappearance because families were threatened against reporting them to the media and human rights organisations.
