Pakistan Assembly members have called for an urgent investigation into the alleged misconduct and acts of intimidation by the Frontier Corps (FC) in Balochistan. A recent incident in Shah Noorani Sarona, within the constituency of Sardar Akhtar Mengal, leader of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) Mengal, prompted MNA Aslam Bhootani, representing Lasbela, Gwadar, and Hub, to address the issue before the speaker of the Assembly.

Bhootani expressed concern over the Frontier Corps’ reported actions, which included unauthorized entry into citizens’ homes, violation of privacy, and instances of gunfire, labelling it as terrorism by the FC. Furthermore, Bhootani claimed that an individual has been posing as a member of Military Intelligence (MI) and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), causing fear and anxiety among the local population.

During his address, MNA Bhootani requested a discussion with Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, urging for an official notice to be taken of the situation. Bhootani also mentioned that he had communicated his concerns to senior officials within the relevant security agencies, adding that the event has generated significant distress among the residents of Sarona.

Assembly member Mohsin Dahwar emphasized that the Frontier Corps’ involvement in such incidents has been an ongoing issue, with similar occurrences happening frequently in the area.

Dahwar pointed out that such incidents typically occur in colonies and are unheard of in civilized countries. He accused the Frontier Corps of pressuring local coal contractors in Harnai, Balochistan, to sign agreements mandating monthly payments, characterizing this as a form of extortion.

The mounting allegations have placed the Frontier Corps’ conduct in Balochistan under scrutiny, with lawmakers urging a thorough investigation into the claims. The situation raises crucial questions about security and the relationship between locals and security forces in Balochistan.
