Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has died at a ripe age of 84 on Monday.

According to the details, Mukherjee, a prominent politician from India’s Congress party, had an emergency operation in New Delhi for a blood clot in the brain on Aug. 10 after sustaining a fall. He was also tested positive for the Covid-19 after the surgery his condition was critical. He was in a coma after the operation.

According to the hospital, Mukherjee’s health began declining on Monday after a septic shock, a potentially life-threatening condition caused by the body’s overblown immune response to an infection.

Abhijeet Mukherjee, his son, confirmed his death on Twitter. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, leader of the rival Bharatiya Janta Party, offered his condolences in a tweet, saying Mukherjee left an “indelible mark on the development trajectory of India. “His wise counsel on key policy matters will never be forgotten by me”, Modi said.

Pranab Mukherjee was a prominent politician from India’s Congress party and served for years in the cabinet. He also served as India’s president from 2012 to 2017. He also served as minister of finance, defence and foreign affairs for three separate prime ministers.
