Ammar Baloch, a resident of Kala town in Dera Ghazi Khan, has reportedly gone missing following his alleged detention in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province.
According to his fellow students, Ammar Baloch was taken into custody at approximately 12:30am on Friday night, allegedly by Pakistani security personnel. They said his whereabouts have remained unknown since the reported detention.
Baloch is a graduate of the University of the Punjab, Lahore, where he completed his BS degree. He later reportedly completed an MPhil in China.
In a statement, his fellow students expressed concern over his disappearance and called on the authorities to disclose his whereabouts and ensure his safety.
They also urged the authorities to inform Baloch’s family of his status and said that, if he is facing any criminal allegations, he should be presented before a court and dealt with in accordance with the law.
The students appealed to civil society, human rights organisations and other concerned individuals to raise their voice over the reported disappearance and call for his safe recovery.
