A 30-year-old woman was found dead in Turbat on Monday morning, hours after she was reportedly abducted by unidentified armed men, according to police and local sources.

Police said the body, bearing apparent signs of torture and bullet wounds, was recovered from an area behind the University of Turbat. It was subsequently shifted to the Teaching Hospital in Turbat, where the woman was identified as Mahgul, 30, wife of Saiful Muhammad and daughter of Aziz, a resident of Kallag Sohrani.

Police said an investigation had been launched into the incident but did not provide further details regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.

Local sources, however, said Mahgul Baloch was allegedly abducted at gunpoint by four unidentified armed men travelling in a Toyota Corolla from Kallag Sohrani, located approximately 10 to 15 kilometres from Turbat city. The reported abduction took place during a wedding ceremony between Sunday night and Monday morning, they said.

The sources said the victim’s family worked in farming and had no known enmity with anyone. Family members reportedly described themselves as financially disadvantaged and said they had no known dispute with any individual or group.

The Balochistan Post attempted to contact the Medical Superintendent of the Teaching Hospital in Turbat for further information but had not received a response at the time of publication.

The incident prompted condemnation and calls for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s reported abduction and death.

Commenting on the incident on X, Norway-based Baloch journalist Kiyya Baloch questioned whether the reported kidnapping, killing and dumping of women was becoming a new pattern in Balochistan.

Karachi-based journalist Alfiya Shah also criticised what she described as a lack of media coverage, saying Pakistani media had given significant attention to a Baloch female singer who died in 1989 but had not provided comparable coverage to the death of a Baloch woman whose body was reportedly found near the University of Turbat.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the incident.
