The Baloch Yakjehti Committee said on Thursday that several of its senior leaders have remained in prison for nearly a year and alleged that delays in court rulings on bail have raised concerns about judicial independence.

In a statement, the group said Dr Mahrang Baloch, Bebarg Baloch, Shaji Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch and Beebow Baloch were first detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (3-MPO) and held for three months without trial.

The BYC said that after the MPO period ended, authorities filed “politically motivated” cases to keep the leaders in custody.

The group  said many of the charges were bailable but alleged that repeated physical remands, delayed investigation reports and procedural hurdles had prevented their release. It said investigations in several cases had been completed and charge sheets submitted to courts.

According to the statement, the High Court heard bail applications on Dec. 17, 2025, and reserved its judgment, but no decision was issued for almost three months. The court disposed of the applications on Feb. 23, ordering the cases to proceed to trial.

The BYC said the prolonged delay amounted to the “denial of liberty” and raised questions about whether courts were acting independently in politically sensitive cases.

The group called for timely and transparent trials, equal application of bail principles and judicial decisions that were free from external pressure.
“Justice delayed is justice denied,” it said.
