A former municipal chairman in Balochistan was released on Friday, nearly two months after armed men abducted him and his son at a roadblock, according to a local source.
Sardar Shah Zaman Khan Alizai, a former head of Mastung’s municipal committee, was travelling to Quetta when armed men intercepted him in the Sorgaz area on August 19 and took him and his son away.
The release comes amid a series of abductions of government personnel, including senior officials, at roadblocks across Balochistan, with some subsequently freed.
On Thursday, armed men reportedly abducted Rakhshan Division Commissioner Asadullah Kakar during a roadblock in Barshonki on the main Kharan–Quetta highway. He was travelling to Kharan to take up his new post and remained missing at the time of reporting.
