Zafar Achakzai, a local journalist from Capital city of Quetta, Balochistan, was released by a local court today.

Mr. Achakzai, a young journalist, went missing a day before Muslim festival of Eid and was only produced before the court four days later. He was accused of anti-Pakistan and anti-military posts on social media.

He was produced by Federal Investigation authority (FIA) before the court on cyber crime charges and a case was registered against Mr. Acahkzai under cyber crime act. The court initially ordered a physical remand against the accused under custody of FIA.

However, the court released him today without any charges citing no allegations could be proved against the accused.

Reporters Without Borders ranks Pakistan at 139 in World Press Freedom Index and condemns Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, adopted by Pakistan, under which criticism of the military, the judicial system, and Islam can lead to imprisonment.
