Balochistan Assembly member Ali Madad Jattak has accused tribal chiefs and influential figures of using their power to commit abuses, alleging that a girl was abducted and her father killed after he sought justice.
Speaking in the Balochistan Assembly, Jattak referred to the case of Asma Jattak, who was allegedly abducted, and said her father had been killed. He also referred to the alleged abduction of Abdul Sattar’s daughter in Kalat, describing the incidents as part of a continuing pattern of abuse.
Jattak alleged that a tribal chief had abducted a young girl and that her father was killed when he sought justice. He further claimed that people who spoke up in support of the girl were also killed.
He said four or five people had been arrested in connection with the case and had allegedly confessed to between 10 and 15 killings. Jattak also alleged that several nawabs and sardars in Balochistan had been accused of burying girls alive, and called for the arrest of their guards, whom he described as wanted suspects and criminals.
Referring to individuals named Zahoor and two of his associates, Jattak questioned their whereabouts and who was sheltering them. Addressing a deputy inspector general of police (DIG), he said the nawab in question should be arrested and given “a couple of blows”, claiming that he would then disclose the details of the case.
Jattak further alleged that Zahoor had previously stood behind the nawab’s son with a gun.
Without naming Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, Jattak accused unnamed tribal leaders of acting cowardly and using their bodyguards to intimidate and abuse people. He also claimed that a nawab who had previously forced people to leave their areas could no longer live in his ancestral area of Zehri.
He further criticised tribal chiefs and nawabs whom he accused of contesting elections and becoming ministers or members of the assembly despite being wanted by the authorities. He alleged that abuses, including the abduction of girls, had contributed to growing anger among young people in Balochistan.
