The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and intelligence agencies have claimed that five suspects were arrested during joint intelligence-based operations at two separate locations in Karachi.
According to a CTD spokesperson, three of the suspects were identified as Imran Khan alias Shaukat, Zaheer Ahmed and Muhammad Riaz. Authorities alleged that the three men had links to a “pro-independence” Baloch armed group. However, the group was not named in the statement.
Two other suspects, identified as Hujatullah and Habibullah, were detained in a separate operation, the CTD said.
The CTD said preliminary investigations suggested that some of the suspects were allegedly involved in surveillance of sensitive locations, extortion and other activities. It also claimed that one suspect was suspected of involvement in an explosion in the Gishkour area of Balochistan in 2024.
Officials said five pistols, ammunition and two mobile phones were recovered during the operations.
The CTD said cases had been registered against the suspects and further investigations were under way.
It added that joint investigation teams had been formed to conduct follow-up inquiries based on information obtained during the initial investigations, while efforts were also under way to identify and locate other suspected individuals.
The allegations against the suspects could not be independently verified.
