On Sunday, November 13, at dawn, the execution of three Baloch prisoners was carried out in Zahedan Central Jail. The hanged prisoners have been identified as “Imam Bakhsh Naroi, Mohsin Anshini, and Wali Rudini, residents of Zahedan.

According to reports, three of the detainees were booked for drug-related crimes. They were reportedly arrested in 2018 and have been imprisoned in Zahedan Central Jail since then.

As per the sources, when the families of the three inmates went to jail for their weekly visit on Sunday, they were first informed that the inmates were missing. Later the dead bodies of three prisoners were found.

All these three prisoners were executed without informing their families. It should be noted that the number of executions of Baloch prisoners in Iran’s prisons has increased significantly for a few years and a serge has been witnessed for recent weeks along with nationwide protests.

The Iranian regime has accelerated the execution of Baloch prisoners. However, there are unconfirmed reports that the number of prisoners hanged in Zahedan Central Jail on Sunday, November 13, may be higher.

According to a report, Ethnic minorities are very much at a disadvantage in the Iranian justice system. Although they make up only 2 to 5 percent of the population in Iran, the Baloch minority accounted for at least 21 percent of executions in 2021 and 26 percent in the first half of the year 2022.

In February 2021, UN experts were alarmed over the execution of Baloch minority prisoners in Iran. UN human rights experts condemned the hanging of prisoners from the Baloch minority. UN experts said “they fear a disturbing recent increase in executions of Baloch minority prisoners in Iran will continue.”
