According to reports, unidentified gunmen on a motorbike attempted to a assassinate a Chinese national near Jamali Bridge in Karachi, the capital of Sindh.

According to local media, the guard in the car was injured in the firing while the Chinese citizen remained safe. The gunmen targeted the vehicle near Jamali Bridge and managed to escape.

Meanwhile, Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) has claimed responsibility for the attack through a media released statement, on Tuesday.

In the statement, Sodho Sindhi, the spokesperson for the group said that SRA claims the responsibility for the attack. The attack resulted in killing a Chinese engineer along with his security guard and wounding another guard, he said.

Mr. Sindhi added that Pakistan and China have invaded and occupied the islands, coast and other resources of Sindh under the pretext of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other related projects. “We warn ‘China and Punjabi Occupiers’ to withdraw from our land, coast and ‘Sindhian Sea’, otherwise we will intensify our attacks on them” further added SRA’s spokesman.

The SRA has launched similar attacks against the Chinese engineers, Pakistani forces and government institutions in the past. Recently, two men  on a motorcycle in Clifton Block 2 area of Karachi had fled after installing a magnetic explosive device on a vehicle of Chinese nationals. Later, the Sindh Revolutionary Army claimed responsibility and said that the motive was to target Chinese engineers.

SRA is an armed, “pro-independence” group that adheres to the idea of Sindhudesh (literally “Sindhi Country”), independent from Pakistan. The idea was proposed by Sindhi nationalists soon after the independence of Bangladesh in 1972.

It may be recalled that in 2018, the Chinese Consulate in Karachi was targeted by three armed assailants for which the Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility. A spokesman for the organization, Jeeyand Baloch, said in a statement that the “self-sacrificing attack” was carried out by members of the BLA Majeed Brigade.
