The Supreme Court has declared the police report “unsatisfactory” and ordered the Balochistan police to recover the five missing persons and submit a report within two weeks.

On Thursday, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed and comprising Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Faisal Arab heard the case of disappearance of five persons at the Quetta Registry of the Supreme Court.

Additional Chief Secretary Hafiz Abdul Basit, Member Balochistan Assembly Qadir Ali Nayal and SSP Operations Quetta appeared during the hearing.

During the hearing, the report submitted by the police was declared unsatisfactory and Chief Justice remarked that the families of the missing persons are running after the police to register their case but the police do not know how to investigate the cases. People have been missing since 2017 and 2018, what is police doing in this manner?, he asked.

The Chief Justice said that the case of disappearance was to be registered by the police which could not be done. On which SSP Operation Quetta said that a letter has been written for Excise Department and CBR records in this regard. On SSP’s remarks Chief Justice expressing indignation said that the job of the police is not to issue a letter but to visit the spot and conduct an investigation.

“Have you considered the people as garbage?” Chief Justice asked the Police. The police should immediately recover all the missing persons, he directed.

The SSP operation said that it is not known yet that they have gone missing or have been abducted, to which Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan said that the police had the vehicle and evidence but still they did nothing.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that every other vehicle under the nose of the police is non-customs paid while aerial firing is taking place and illegal activities are going on in the entire city.

The Chief Justice said that the entire police department should be suspended for such actions, adding that illegal actions were being protected by the police which would not be allowed under any circumstances.

The court directed the Quetta police to recover the missing persons within two weeks and submit a report and the police to take action in any case for illegal activities.

The court directed IG Balochistan Police to appear in the next hearing through video link. Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that the next hearing of the case would be held in Islamabad in four weeks.
