Six people have allegedly been forcibly disappeared from Quetta, Karachi and Hub Chowki, while 15 previously disappeared persons have been recovered from different areas of Balochistan and Dera Ghazi Khan, local sources and families said.
Local sources said Pakistani forces raided homes in the Killi Almas area of Airport Road in Quetta on the morning of July 21 and detained Hafiz Abdul Nafay Baloch, son of Mohammad Ibrahim Baloch, and Bebarg Baloch, son of Ainuddin Baloch.
The sources said personnel from the ISI and CTD took the two men away and moved them to undisclosed locations. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
CTD personnel also detained Miran Baloch, son of Gul Khan and a resident of Kharan, from Bashir Chowk in Quetta on July 23, his family said.
The family said Miran Baloch had been subjected to enforced disappearance for the third time.
Separately, the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) said Younus Baloch, one of its zonal organisers, had been forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces from his home in Quetta late Friday night.
The BSO described Younus Baloch’s enforced disappearance as a violation of domestic and international law and part of what it called an attempt to suppress democratic political activity through force.
“Political and social activists are being subjected to reprisals through false cases, unlawful detention, placement on the Fourth Schedule and enforced disappearance,” the BSO said, describing such actions as violations of human rights, freedom of expression and human dignity.
Two more cases were reported from Karachi and Hub Chowki.
Rangers personnel detained 26-year-old Aamir Ghani Kalmati, son of Shamsuddin Kalmati, from his home in Haji Shah Ali Goth in Karachi’s Sharafi area at around 1:30am on July 24 and moved him to an undisclosed location, sources said.
Mohammad Arif, son of Zakir Ismail and a resident of Khuzdar, was detained in Hub Chowki at around 7:00am on July 17 by personnel from MI and members of a local armed group referred to by residents as a “death squad”.
The sources said Arif had previously also been subjected to enforced disappearance. His father, Zakir Ismail, has been forcibly disappeared since February 11, 2013.
Meanwhile, reports were received of the recovery of 15 previously disappeared persons from different areas.
Those recovered from Quetta include Shahzad Qambrani, Mohammad Raheem, Aziz Baloch, Aamir Jameel and Shehroz Baloch.
Others recovered include Hafeez Iqbal from Panjgur; Zahid Baloch, Aziz and Fida from Parom; Fazal Baloch and Saddam Hussain from Awaran; Jahanzeb and Bezan from Naag Bazaar in Washuk; Mohammad Sadiq from Kech; Khuda Bakhsh from Surab; and Mubeen Baloch from Taunsa Sharif in Dera Ghazi Khan.
VBMP Demands Recovery of Missing Persons
The reports came as the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) said the commission established to deal with missing persons’ cases had formally registered the cases of Shahid Ahmed Kurd and Noor Mohammad Kurd and issued notices to relevant institutions.
The VBMP said the commission had directed the institutions concerned to provide information about the two men and take steps for their safe recovery.
VBMP Chairman Nasrullah Baloch also demanded the recovery of BSO chairman Jihand Baloch, who his family says was taken away from his home by CTD personnel at around 11:00pm on July 23.
Nasrullah Baloch described Jihand Baloch’s enforced disappearance as an unconstitutional act and a serious violation of citizens’ fundamental rights.
“If there are any allegations against him, he should be produced before a court in accordance with the law,” Nasrullah Baloch said, calling on authorities to ensure his immediate and safe recovery.
Pakistani authorities had not issued a statement regarding the latest reported disappearances or recoveries at the time of publication.
