The Bolan Medical College Restoration Movement organized a demonstration, on Thursday in Quetta for the restoration of BMC to its 2017 status. The employees and students of BMC were not allowed to cross the CM Secretariat junction, prompting them to stage a sit-in on the junction instead.

According to the details, scores of demonstrators took to the streets to demand the restoration of Bolan Medical College to its 2017 college status, pleading the authorities to downgrade from its current status as a university. Members of student organizations also participated in the protest. The demonstrators said that BMC’s university status puts the future of its employees in jeopardy.

The leaders of the BMC Restoration Movement said in a statement on Wednesday that the government has constantly reneged on its promises. They said that the authorities will be responsible if they attempt to thwart the demonstration and the situation gets out of control.

They further said that the elitist policies of the administration have the backing of the land mafia. The administration is closing the doors of medical education to the impoverished students of Balochistan. They are misusing their authority, and we will certainly put an end to these policies. If their peaceful protests are instigated, the consequences won’t be good, the leaders warned.

Nimra Baloch of the Baloch Students Organization said that they will not halt the protests until their demands are met. The protests have received the endorsement of the National Party, Doctor’s Forum and Baloch Students Organization.

The spokesperson for the National Party has said that the leaders of the BMC Restoration Movement have maintained a peaceful and patient protest which explicitly represents their institutional and social values and character. The government, on the other hand, has only continuously reneged on its promises, he said. The spokesperson further said that the National Party will always support the legitimate demands of the educational institutions.
