The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) said on Friday it had killed 12 Pakistani military personnel in a series of attacks in Mastung, Kalat, Quetta and Gomazi between June 16 and July 15.
In a statement, BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch said the group’s fighters set up a checkpoint near Madina Hotel in Mastung’s Khadkucha area on July 15, where they searched vehicles and captured the driver of a Pakistani army major along with a bulletproof vehicle.
The group said the driver remained in its custody and was being interrogated. It added that eight goods trailers stopped during the same blockade were later released “on humanitarian grounds”.
The BLF also claimed a sniper attack on a Pakistani army post near Rodin Jho Hospital in Kalat on July 14, in which it said one soldier was killed.
The statement said two Pakistani personnel were killed and several others wounded in the Marwar area of Gomazi on July 13 after BLF fighters attacked troops who had allegedly entered the area in civilian clothes. The group also claimed an attack the same day on a Pakistani army checkpost in Jhao’s Zelag area.
In Kalat’s Tauk area, the BLF said its fighters ambushed a Pakistani military vehicle near Gidan Hotel on July 10, killing five personnel and destroying the vehicle.
The group also claimed an armed clash with a 15-vehicle Pakistani military convoy in Dasht Kambela, Quetta, on July 10. The statement said several soldiers were killed or wounded, a quadcopter was shot down and an army officer was killed along with two other personnel during the clash.
The BLF also claimed two earlier attacks in Mastung, including the destruction of a surveillance camera installed on a railway track in Dasht Tera Mile on June 17 and a sniper attack on a post in Isplinji on June 16, in which it said one soldier was killed.
There was no immediate official response to the BLF’s claims.
