Pakistani authorities have claimed to have arrested three alleged members of the Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) in connection with the fatal shooting of a stall owner in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 2 earlier this month.

According to officials, the suspects, identified as Zafar Ali, Faraz and Sajjad Ahmed were arrested on 18 August during a joint operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and a federal intelligence agency near the Korangi Causeway.

Authorities said three hand grenades and a pistol were recovered from the suspects at the time of their arrest. They added that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the detainees were involved in other violent incidents or attacks in the city.

Officials allege that the three men were involved in a shooting at a stall set up for Independence Day celebrations near Sunset Boulevard in DHA Phase 2 on 12 August.

According to authorities, the stall owner, identified as Aman, was critically wounded after being shot in front of his wife and children. He later died from his injuries.

Investigators claim that evidence gathered during the inquiry linked the suspects to the attack, leading to their detention.

Authorities further alleged that the suspects received instructions and financial support from Arsalan Shah, whom they described as an SRA member based outside Pakistan.

According to officials, funds were allegedly provided to the suspects during the first week of August, after which they were tasked with carrying out the attack. However, authorities have not publicly disclosed further details regarding the alleged transfer of funds or the evidence supporting the claim.

Officials said investigators are now examining the suspects’ contacts and possible facilitators, while also seeking to determine whether they were part of a larger network. The inquiry is also focused on assessing any alleged links between the suspects and the broader SRA network, as well as their possible involvement in other attacks.

The allegations and details contained in this report are based on statements issued by Pakistani authorities and have not been independently verified.
