Protests and a shutter-down strike were reported in several parts of Balochistan following the verdict.
The BYC had earlier called for a region-wide strike, urging traders, transporters, students and political activists to participate in demonstrations against what it described as an unjust verdict.
Following the call, protests, rallies and market closures reported in Quetta, Khuzdar, Surab, Mastung, Noshki, Turbat, Kalat, Gwadar and other cities and towns across Balochistan, with demonstrators demanding the release of Dr Mahrang Baloch, Shah Jee Sibghatullah and other detained activists.
The verdict has also drawn criticism from other rights groups and activists, while the Balochistan government has defended the court’s decision, maintaining that the case was decided on the basis of evidence presented during trial and that those responsible for violence against state personnel must be held accountable.
Lawyers representing Dr Mahrang Baloch and Shah Jee Sibghatullah have indicated that they intend to challenge the convictions before the Balochistan High Court.
