Three Chinese workers in Tajikistan were killed in an attack launched from Afghanistan near the border, Tajik authorities said Thursday.
In a statement, the Tajik Foreign Ministry said the strike took place in the border region of Khatlon province and was “launched from Afghan territory.” It said the attack targeted employees of a Chinese company working near the frontier.
“The attack, carried out with firearms and a drone loaded with grenades, claimed the lives of three employees of Chinese nationality,” the ministry said.
Dushanbe condemned the incident and called on Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities to take “effective measures” to ensure security and stability along the shared border.
The ministry alleged that “criminal groups” operating inside Afghanistan were behind the assault. However, no group had claimed responsibility for the incident until the filing of this report.
Afghan authorities have not yet issued a statement responding to Tajikistan’s accusation.
