A one-year-old girl from Turbat city of Balochistan has died after contracting measles.

According to reports, the child, identified as Anam, daughter of Hakim Ali, a resident of Bug Zamuran, was reportedly transferred to Teaching Hospital Turbat for treatment on Thursday. She later died while undergoing medical care at the facility.

Family members have alleged that the child did not receive adequate treatment or care at the hospital and was not transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). According to relatives, doctors advised them to seek treatment at a private hospital, but financial constraints prevented them from doing so. The child subsequently died at Teaching Hospital Turbat.

Meanwhile, local sources have expressed concern over what they describe as a growing number of measles cases in the Zamuran region. Sources claim that three children from the same family in Bug Bazaar — identified as Umar Jan, Muhammad Usman and Rehana, children of Muhammad Amin — have also contracted the disease.

Local sources further reported that several measles cases have emerged in the Hoshab and Dandar areas and claimed that two nine-year-old children have died as a result of the illness.

Residents have called on Kech Deputy Commissioner Yasir Iqbal Dashti, District Health Officer Dr. Abdul Rauf Rind and Medical Superintendent of Teaching Hospital Turbat Dr. Abdul Waheed Baloch to take urgent measures to contain the spread of measles. They have urged authorities to deploy medical teams to affected areas and ensure immediate healthcare services for children.

Locals have also demanded special arrangements for measles patients at Teaching Hospital Turbat and called for a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Anam’s death.
