An 18-year-old youth was killed in what his family said was police firing in Quetta’s Sariab area after travelling to donate blood.

Khalid Sasoli, a resident of Nushki district in Balochistan, had gone to Civil Hospital Quetta with three friends to donate blood to a female patient, his family said. They said he was on his way back after completing the donation when the shooting took place on Munir Ahmed Road.

Khalid’s father expressed grief over the loss, saying his son had gone to “give blood to save a life” but did not return. “My son went to give blood to save a life, but he could not come back himself,” he said.

Eyewitnesses said the incident took place at night while routine traffic and police patrols were ongoing in the area. Sudden gunfire caused panic among residents, prompting many to flee to safer locations.

A local shopkeeper, speaking on condition of anonymity, said he was closing his shop when the firing began and that the injured youth was rushed to hospital shortly afterward.

Hospital sources confirmed that Khalid Sasoli was brought in with critical injuries and remained under treatment for several hours. However, his condition was described as serious from the outset, and he later succumbed to his injuries.

Officials confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been initiated. However, no detailed statement has yet been issued by police or other law enforcement agencies.

Khalid’s family has called for a transparent and impartial inquiry, urging authorities to hold those responsible accountable.

The incident follows a separate case two weeks earlier in which a young man, Israr Qalandarani, reportedly died in police custody in Quetta, allegedly due to torture, sparking widespread reaction.
