A militant attack targeting a security forces’ camp in the Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has resulted in the deaths of 23 Pakistani soldiers. The attack was confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the official media wing of the Pakistan Army.
According to ISPR, a group of six militants launched an attack on the camp. After an unsuccessful attempt to infiltrate the camp, the militants detonated a vehicle laden with explosives, causing significant destruction and the collapse of part of the facility.
In addition to the 23 soldiers killed, 34 were reported injured. The ISPR stated that all six attackers, including two suicide bombers, were killed in the retaliatory action.
The Tehrik-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP), an Islamist militant group, has claimed responsibility for the attack. In addition, the TJP has also released a video purportedly related to the attack.
