Balochistan Lawmakers on Tuesday chanted slogans against the previous government and the security forces in Pakistan National Assembly for operations on Baloch people.

According to reports, The Pakistan National Assembly echoed with voices by members of the Assembly from Balochistan against the Former Prime Minister Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government and the security forces for carrying out ‘agenda’ killing of Baloch people.

This comes in the context of the April 16 incident in Balochistan’s Chaghi district, when Hameedullah Baloch, a driver who was killed in the Panch Raik area near the Afghan border by the Pakistani security forces. The forces were reportedly confiscating the vehicles of other drivers and when Hameedullah Baloch saw this, he sped away to escape but the forces opened fire on his vehicle and killed him on the spot. Other drivers were forced to leave their vehicles behind and walk over 250kms back to Nokkundi on foot. Three drivers lost their lives while attempting the arduous journey.

The second day of the incident, Pakistani security forces again opened indiscriminate fire on the peaceful protestors who were protesting against the killing of the drivers. Eight people were critically injured in the live fire.

In reaction of the incident, the head of Balochistan National Party, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, refused to be a part of the federal government. Despite being invited by the government, Mengal refused to join the federal cabinet and also declined to attend the oath-taking ceremony on Tuesday in protest against the Chaghi incident.

The Awami National Party also declined to become a part of the federal government. ANP chief Asfandyar Wali said that the priorities of ANP lie with the masses and not with the government.
