Head of Radio Sada-e-Ghor was killed in an attack in Ghor province of Afghanistan, on Friday.

According to local officials, Bismillah Adil Aimaq was head of Radio Sada-e-Ghor and was killed in an attack in Dara-e-Taimoor village.

Adil Aimaq, was a journalist and a civil society activist in Ghor, was killed by unidentified armed men in a central city of the province.

This is the 6th journalist killed in last two months in Afghanistan.

A week earlier another journalist, Rahmatullah Nikzadjn was killed. He was head of the journalists’ union in Ghazni province, he was killed by armed men outside his home in Ghazni city. In December, Enekaas TV’s presenter in Nangarhar Malala Maiwand was killed along with her driver.

In November, Elyas Dayee, a Radio reporter, was killed in a magnetic IED blast in Helmand province. A week earlier that, Yama Siawash, a former TOLOnews presenter was killed in a similar blast in Kabul and Ariana News presenter Fardin Amini was also killed in the same month.

Violence against journalists and media has increased in Afghanistan in recent months, although a respite might have been expected as a result of the peace talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government.

According to CPJ’s report, number of journalists killed worldwide rose significantly in 2020 from the previous year.
