The deputy governor of Kabul Mahboobullah Mohebi and his assistant were killed in an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) attack on Tuesday. The officials say that a magnetic bomb – known as ‘sticky bomb’ – was attached to the deputy governor’s car that went off and killed him and his assistant. Two of his security guards were wounded. Tariq Arian,a spokesperson for the Afghan ministry of foreign affairs, confirmed the incident.
The bombing took place in the Macroyan neighborhood in Kabul. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman for High Council for National Reconciliation, condemned the attack and said that recent surge in violent attacks is the enemy of the Afghan peace process.
Sima Simar, special presidential envoy and state minister for human rights, said in a tweet that the “people are tired of terrorist attacks every day.”
In another incident in Kabul, a gunman shot and killed one policeman and wounded another. The spokesperson for the Kabul’s police confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation was ongoing.
