Students of the only medical college in Balochistan, Bolan Medical College (BMC), have refused to attend classes or allow normal business of the day to proceed in the varsity after a final-year student is allegedly whisked away by Pakistani security forces.

According to The Balochistan Post (TBP) correspondent, personnel of Pakistani secret agencies raided the main hostel of BMC early in the morning on March, 5th and took away Dr. Saeedullah Badini. The whole episode was witnessed by dozens of other students.

Many student activists have been abducted and killed in last few years from Balochistan. Campaign groups including Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Amnesty International (AI) have alleged that Pakistani security forces are behind most of these abductions.

However, there is no suggestion that Dr. Badini was part of any activist group. According to his college fellows, Dr. Badini was a very bright final-year Medical student and a keen football player. He was arrested while studying for his examinations.

Few days prior to his abduction he had wrote in a Facebook status that: ‘Balochistan is the only region in the world where mothers worry about their sons coming of age’. It is understood that he was indirectly pointing to the illegal abductions prevalent in Balochistan.

Joint protest by colleagues:

In protest to the abduction, the students of BMC have shut down the college and are demanding immediate release of Dr. Badini. The protest call is supported by all the major student organisations including Baloch Students Organisation (BSO), Pashtun Students Organisation (PSO), Pashtun Students Federation (PSF) and Baloch Students Action Committe (BSAC).

A protest camp has also been held in front of the BMC college for the safe recovery of Dr. Badini. The camp has so far been visited by Secretary Health and the principal of BMC, Dr Shabeer Lehri.
