The live television feeds of several Pakistani television channels, including Geo News, were hacked during live broadcasts on Sunday night, resulting in the airing of messages critical of the Pakistani military.
According to Pakistani media reports, the intrusion affected multiple news and sports channels, interrupting regular programming after hackers gained access to broadcast feeds.
During the disruption, messages were displayed accusing the Pakistani military of causing “destruction” and urging the public to stand against it.
One message shown on screen read, “Your army is your enemy.” Another message, written in Urdu, accused the military and what it described as its “designated constituencies” of bringing “complete destruction,” and called on the public to rise against it.
Geo News Managing Director Azhar Abbas confirmed the breach, saying the channel had been facing repeated hacking attempts over the past 24 hours by what he described as “unknown elements” seeking to disrupt its transmission.
“For some time now, Geo News’ broadcast has been continuously disrupted,” Abbas wrote in a post on X. “The channel’s screen was hacked and an inappropriate message was aired.”
He said the content had no connection with Geo News or its editorial policy and urged authorities to launch an investigation and hold those responsible to account.
