Armed men reportedly overran a Pakistani military outpost in Balochistan’s Kalat district during a late-night assault on Tuesday. In separate operations in Kharan district, the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for a checkpoint blockade and an attack on security forces. Meanwhile in Sindh, the Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) said it carried out a shooting on a Punjab-bound train near Hyderabad, reportedly injuring several passengers.
Outpost ‘Captured’ in Kalat
According to local sources, the targeted outpost was located in the Sheikhri area of Kalat. Witnesses told The Balochistan Post that the attackers launched a coordinated assault, resulting in casualties among Pakistani security personnel. After several hours of fighting, the assailants reportedly took control of the fortified position.
Pakistani authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the attack, and no group has so far claimed responsibility. Kalat, located south of Quetta, has seen a surge in attacks by Baloch “pro-independence” armed groups in recent months.
In November 2024, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed to have captured a major Pakistani military camp in Kalat, killing 29 soldiers and seizing weapons. In January 2025, the group said it killed seven soldiers in a remote-controlled IED attack followed by an ambush in the same district.
BLF Attacks FC and Sets Up Checkpoint in Kharan
Meanwhile, the Balochistan Liberation Front said its fighters set up a temporary checkpoint on the Kharan-Gowash Road on Tuesday evening.
In a statement, the group said its fighters stopped and inspected vehicles between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM at Kallag Cross, a junction on a China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) link road in the Gowash area of Kharan.
The BLF said its fighters stopped vehicles, questioned drivers, and inspected documents. Two bulldozers were briefly held and released after it was confirmed they were for personal use and not connected to state projects or security operations.
The group added that all passengers and drivers were treated respectfully during the operation and that civilians cooperated with the fighters.
On Monday evening, the Balochistan Liberation Front claimed its fighters attacked a Frontier Corps checkpoint on Gowash Road in Kharan city.
In a statement released by BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch, the group said the assault began at 8:00 PM on 21 April. BLF Fighters first shot and killed an FC personnel stationed outside a bunker. When additional personnel approached to recover the body, BLF fighters opened fire again using automatic weapons, allegedly causing further casualties and damage.
The BLF said it accepts full responsibility for the attack and vowed to continue its operations “until the liberation of Balochistan is achieved.”
BLF Conducted Over 280 Attacks in 2024
According to data compiled by The Balochistan Post’s Data Visual Studio, the BLF carried out at least 284 attacks in 2024, resulting in more than 280 deaths and over 160 injuries. Property damage was reported in at least 90 incidents.
The group is one of the most active Baloch armed organisations seeking independence, and has repeatedly targeted military convoys, checkpoints, and infrastructure linked to CPEC.
Hyderabad: SRA Claims Responsibility for Train Attack
The Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) has claimed responsibility for a shooting incident on a passenger train bound for Punjab near Guddu Chowk, Hussainabad, in Sindh on Tuesday night.
According to a statement by the group’s spokesperson, Sudho Sindhi, the attack targeted Punjabi settlers, several of whom were reportedly injured. The SRA said the operation was carried out in protest against the “continued colonial exploitation of Sindh by the Pakistani state and military.”
The group alleged that the state seeks to seize full control of the Indus River, which it described as the “lifeline and national identity” of the Sindhi people, with the goal of permanently disempowering Sindh. It vowed to continue its armed struggle to defend Sindhi rights and territory.
“We want to send a clear message to Punjabi imperialism,” the spokesperson said. “The Indus River is the identity, trust, and property of the Sindhi nation. We will go to any extent to defend it.”
The Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army is an armed, “pro-independence” group advocating for the creation of Sindhudesh—an independent Sindhi nation separate from Pakistan. The concept of Sindhudesh was first proposed by Sindhi nationalists in the early 1970s, following the independence of Bangladesh.
In recent years, the SRA has aligned itself with other “pro-independence” groups in the region. It is part of the Baloch Raaji Aajoi Sangar (BRAS), an umbrella alliance of Baloch “pro-independence” armed organizations. The formation of BRAS has facilitated greater coordination between Sindhi and Baloch armed groups in their operations against Pakistani state institutions and infrastructure.
The SRA’s latest statement reaffirmed its commitment to what it called “armed resistance” until the “complete national independence of Sindh is achieved.”
