A young woman was axed to death in Tamboo area of district Naseerabad by her father in the name of honor. The miscreant also wounded another man in several axe strikes and then fled the scene.

According to the details, a man named Sabir axed her young daughter to death and wounded another man named Muhammad Akbar in the name of honour.

The police were soon called on the site from where they moved the deceased woman and the injured man to the hospital. The dead body of the woman was handed over to her family after a preliminary investigation. The culprit is on the loose and the police are investigating the incident.

Honour killing – also known as “Karu Kari” or “Siyah Kari” – is the murder of a member of the family over the accusations that the victim has brought shame or dishonour to the family or violated the principles of the community.

Pakistan has the highest number of estimated and documented honour killings per capita in the world – about one-fifth of the world’s honour killings are performed here. International and Pakistani activist and rights groups have been campaigning for an end to the practice for years. The Pakistani government has also introduced laws criminalizing honour killings, but the practice continues in various parts of the country.

The rate of honour killings are considerably lower in Balochistan in comparison to other parts of the region, but the figure is still high, especially in district Naseerabad. According to Aurat Foundation – a non-governmental women’s rights organization – around 50 people, most of them women, were killed in Balochistan in 2018 in the name of honour.

Rights groups have repeatedly called for the government of Balochistan should allocate a greater amount of resources towards running campaigns against the practice. They also recommend that the government must investigate such killings thoroughly and prosecute the culprits.
