Traders, workers and residents in Panjgur have reported difficulties following the closure of several roads in the town’s main market area, which authorities have reportedly restricted due to security concerns.

According to local sources, the road closures have affected access to Chitkan Bazaar, causing disruption for shoppers, traders, labourers and business owners. Panjgur College Road has been particularly affected, with garages, the auto market and numerous shops along the route reportedly experiencing a decline in activity.

Representatives of local auto and garage unions, along with workers, staged a protest against the continued closures. They said the restrictions have significantly impacted commercial activity in the town and affected the livelihoods of those dependent on daily business.

The protesters stated that many traders and workers have exhausted their savings, while some labourers employed in garages and shops are struggling to earn a living due to the reduction in business.

According to traders, the impact of the closures extends beyond individual markets, affecting commercial activity throughout Chitkan Bazaar. They said traffic movement in the area has decreased considerably, contributing to lower customer numbers and a slowdown in trade.

Local business owners said an alternative route has been opened via Hospital Road following the closures. However, they described the route as difficult to navigate and in poor condition. They further claimed that traffic accidents have occurred on the road, resulting in casualties and property damage.

Traders also reported that large trucks, trailers and other heavy vehicles transporting goods to shops face difficulties using the alternative route because of its narrow streets and limited space for turning or manoeuvring.

Shopkeepers expressed concern over the ongoing restrictions, saying the business community was already facing economic challenges and that the road closures had added to their difficulties.

The protesters called on the relevant authorities to reopen the main roads in Panjgur and restore normal access to the market, arguing that residents from areas including Khudabadan, Garmkan and Tarans are being forced to take longer and more difficult routes to reach the town centre.

They said reopening the roads would help restore commercial activity and ease travel for both residents and businesses.
