In a deeply disturbing incident, Pakistani military personnel allegedly desecrated the graves of two slain Baloch activists by firing upon them and smashing their headstones in the Siyahozai village area of Basima, Washuk district.
According to local residents, a large number of security forces arrived in the village graveyard on the evening of July 15 and cordoned off the area. Soon after, the sound of heavy gunfire was heard coming from the cemetery. Eyewitnesses report that the gravestones of Tariq Karim and Asim Karim were deliberately shattered, with visible bullet marks found on and around their graves.
The two brothers, both previously associated with the Baloch Students Organization–Azad (BSO-Azad), were victims of enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killing over a decade ago.
Tariq Karim was abducted on October 21, 2010, allegedly by the Pakistani security forces, from the Gulistan-e-Johar area in Karachi. His mutilated body was later discovered in the Saryab area of Quetta on May 11, 2011.
His younger brother, Asim Karim, was forcibly disappeared from Quetta on October 29, 2010, and his body was recovered on October 31, 2010, in the Khanozai region of district Pishin.
