A Baloch “pro-independence” armed group has claimed responsibility for a grenade attack on a military checkpoint in Quetta, while a separate shooting incident in Panjgur has left a police officer critically injured.

BRG Claims Attack in Hazara Town

The Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) said its fighters carried out a grenade attack on a Pakistani military checkpoint in Quetta’s Hazara Town on Monday night.

In a statement released to the media on Tuesday, BRG spokesperson Dostain Baloch said the group targeted the checkpoint by hurling a hand grenade, seriously injuring one member of the security forces.

He said Pakistani military and police personnel launched a search operation in the area following the attack. However, he added, BRG fighters successfully retreated from the area without sustaining casualties.

The group said the operation was part of its ongoing campaign and vowed to continue such attacks “until the independence of Balochistan is achieved.”

Pakistani authorities have not yet commented on the incident.

Police Officer Shot in Panjgur

In a separate incident the same night, a police sub-inspector was critically injured in a shooting in Panjgur district.

Police identified the officer as Pazeer Ahmed, who was attacked near the Boys High School in Ghareebabad Chitkan while returning home from duty.

According to officials, unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire near a local market.

Ahmed sustained three bullet wounds—one to the neck and two to the arms—and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Medical staff said his condition remains critical.

The attackers fled the scene, and no group has claimed responsibility for the shooting so far. Police say an investigation is underway.
