Karachi police have re-arrested Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leader Sammi Deen Baloch outside a court under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance. Following the arrest, she has been transferred to jail for 30 days.

According to the Sindh government’s order, Sammi Deen Baloch and four others were taken into custody on allegations of inciting public unrest and posing a threat to law and order.

The arrests followed a protest call by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) and Karachi’s civil society members outside the Press Club on Monday. The demonstration was held in response to the detention of BYC leaders Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Beebarg Baloch, and other activists in Quetta. During the protest, Sammi Deen Baloch and several demonstrators were taken into custody.

On Tuesday morning, police presented Sammi Deen and four others before a judicial magistrate at Central Jail. After hearing arguments from the legal representatives, the court ordered their release. However, moments after being freed, Sammi Deen was re-arrested by police, who stated that her detention was now under the MPO ordinance.
