The Director General of Balochistan Levies Force has issued a directive warning Levies personnel to actively resist attacks on checkposts and prevent armed groups from seizing their weapons.

The Director General stated in an official letter that recent incidents have revealed that some Levies personnel surrendered their weapons to members of Baloch armed groups. He described this act as negligence and cowardice, which undermines the effectiveness of the force and poses a serious threat to the security and stability of the region.

In an official letter, senior Levies officials instructed all personnel to respond bravely to any “terrorist” attack and ensure the protection of civilians and the maintenance of peace in the area.

The directive further warned that any personnel who surrender their weapons or display negligence during an attack would face strict disciplinary action under the Levies Disciplinary Rules 2015.

Officials also emphasized that any act of negligence or cowardice would result in the immediate dismissal of the concerned personnel. Furthermore, dismissed officers will not be allowed to appeal for reinstatement, as such requests will not be entertained by the directorate.

The directive instructed all Deputy Commissioners to promptly communicate these orders to all Levies personnel under their jurisdiction and ensure strict compliance. “Immediate implementation of these measures is deemed essential to safeguard the region from terrorist threats”, it said.

It is noteworthy that in recent times, several incidents of armed raids on Levies and Police checkposts in different areas of Balochistan have been reported. In previous incidents, including those in Khuzdar, Kech and other regions, authorities had dismissed several personnel following armed takeovers of Levies stations.

Armed Baloch “pro-independence” groups have often claimed responsibility for such attacks. However, these groups have stated that they do not target personnel based on their Baloch ethnicity.
