The family of Zubair Baloch, a graduate of Balochistan University and former journalist, continues their sit-in protest at Hub Chowki against his enforced disappearance. Zubair was reportedly taken from his home by security forces late Saturday night.

For several hours, protesters have blocked the Karachi-Quetta highway despite the harsh cold. Hundreds of vehicles and passengers remain stranded. Although authorities have initiated negotiations, the family has refused to call off the protest until Zubair is safely recovered.

“This is a grave violation of human rights. Zubair was a hard-working student and journalist who contributed significantly to his community. We demand his immediate release,” a family member said.

The situation took a violent turn when police and security forces allegedly cracked down on the demonstrators. Tear gas and live ammunition were reportedly used, and several protesters, including women and children, were detained.

Dr. Mahrang Baloch, head of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, condemned the operation, calling it a blatant act of state terrorism. “The repression against peaceful protesters reflects the ongoing systematic oppression of the Baloch people,” she said, urging residents of Hub to join the protests and stand in solidarity with Zubair’s family.

The committee further stated that enforced disappearances and violence against civilians have become a pattern in the region, with every household living in fear of state actions.
