Thirteen months after her death, the remains of Shari Baloch, the Baloch Liberation Army’s first female self-sacrificer, have been handed over to her family. Funeral prayers took place earlier today (Tuesday) in Nazarabad, her ancestral home.

Shari Baloch carried out a self-sacrificing attack targeting officials affiliated with the Confucius Institute at the main gate of Karachi University on April 26 last year. The blast resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals, including three Chinese nationals.

In a development last year, the Baloch Liberation Army, a pro-independence armed group active mainly in Balochistan, accepted responsibility for the attack. The group’s spokesperson, Jeeyand Baloch, disclosed that Shari Baloch, a member of BLA’s Majeed Brigade, had specifically targeted members of the Chinese Communist Party.
