Baloch insurgents blew up a natural gas pipeline in the Dera Ghazi khan area of Balochistan, on Friday.

According to reports, some unidentified armed men planted explosive material under the 36-inch diameter of the Sui gas pipeline in the Ghazi Gat area of Dera Ghazi Khan, which exploded and caught fire — disrupting the gas supply to several districts of Punjab.

Rescue workers reached the spot and managed to control the fire after hours of struggle.

A Baloch “pro-independence” armed group, Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) in a press release took responsibility for bombing the gas pipeline.

The Baloch nationalists have waged a large-scale armed movement for independence for more than two decades and were behind several deadly attacks against Pakistani law-enforcement agencies and various state institutions in Balochistan. According to insurgents, Pakistan illegally and unfairly exploits Balochistan’s natural resources.
