Residents have been displaced from Chur and Geshtardan in Zamuran tehsil of Balochistan’s Kech district, while families in nearby settlements are leaving their ancestral homes as Pakistani forces tighten checks and restrict movement, local sources said.
The number of people who have left was not immediately known. One resident told The Balochistan Post that checkpoints had multiplied across the area over the past few months, making travel increasingly difficult.
“Previously, we were stopped every two kilometres, but over the past few months strict checks have been imposed at every kilometre,” the resident said.
He said forces were also recording details of household food supplies and preventing residents from travelling to Buleda after sunset, even in cases of illness. Constant drone surveillance over homes had added to the difficulties faced by families, he said.
Residents said the restrictions and surveillance had made remaining in Zamuran increasingly difficult, forcing families to leave land where they had lived for generations. They said they had raised the matter with local representatives, but no effective intervention had followed.
The Pakistani military and Kech district administration had not publicly commented on the reported displacement or the restrictions described by residents.
The reports from Zamuran come as residents in other parts of Balochistan face relocation ahead of planned military operations. Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti told the Balochistan Assembly that about 1,000 people living in Kalat’s mountainous Shoor Paarod area would be relocated and resettled before an operation against what he described as militant camps.
Residents of Killi Batto, Killi Ahmed Wal, Killi Harooni and Killi Jorkain in Noshki, as well as areas of Mastung, have separately been ordered to vacate their homes for two months. Displacement was also reported earlier this year from Zehri and from Shadi Kaur in Pasni.
