Pakistani Prime Minister’s comments on Afghanistan in his address to the United Nationals General Assembly have provoked the ire of the Taliban leadership who have blamed Pakistan for capitalizing on the situation and using Afghanistan as an excuse to wash its dirty hands.

Former Taliban Ambassador to Pakistan, Abdul Salam Zaeef, said the Pakistani premier’s “poison-laced” words at the UNGA hint at an underlying conspiracy. He said this conspiracy should be investigated and stopped in its tracks.

Taliban sympathizer Faiz Khuland shared Shahbaz Sharif’s speech on a social media platform, questioning whether Pakistan was actually a “friend.”

Taliban government and its supporters said the comments made by Pakistan, the USA, and many other countries about the armed groups in Afghanistan are “based on lies.” They said that we categorically repudiate these allegations and assure the rest of the world that we will not allow any armed group to use Afghan soil to wage a war against anyone. They said that no armed groups are operating on Afghan soil.

They said that instead of holding itself back, the world should pursue a policy of friendship and cooperation with Afghanistan. The Taliban leadership said that if Afghanistan had any representation at the United Nations, we would have addressed the reservations brought up during the UNGA.
