A protest rally was held in Karachi on Sunday against the “enforced disappearance” of BSAC Chairperson Sabiha Baloch’s brother Shahmir Baloch. Students, activists and people from all walks of life participated in the rally and demanded the safe release of Shahmir Baloch and all the other Baloch missing persons.
Addressing the protestors, the speakers said that student politics is in decline due to a “state-sponsored” crackdown. They said that some hostile elements are trying their absolute best to put an end to student politics in Balochistan, and the recent disappearance of the BSAC chairperson’s brother is one example of it.
They said that the “enforced disappearances” are accelerating in Balochistan – hundreds of individuals go missing from different areas and only a handful of them return home. They said that the “abduction” of Shahmir Baloch is a human rights violation, and the rights groups must take notice of it. They said that Sabiha Baloch has always been the voice for the downtrodden – now it is our turn to stand beside her in these tough times.
