At least 10 hours past since the breakdown but the power has not been restored in the country except some major cities.

As per details, shortly before midnight on Saturday, a massive breakdown in almost the entire country was reported by citizens on social media.

Electricity blackout hit many cities of Pakistan and 30 out of 33 districts of Balochistan.

The latest blackout was caused by “a technical fault”  at 11:41 pm on Saturday, which tripped the system and caused power plants to shut down, Pakistan’s power minister Omar Ayub Khan told a press conference in Islamabad.

Energy minister said that the power breakout occurred when the frequency in the national power distribution system (NTDC) suddenly fell from 50 to zero, adding that the matter is being investigated.

During the press conference, the federal ministers criticised previous governments for only focusing on power generation and neglecting the transmission system. “Under the government of PML-N, the country saw eight major power breakdowns,” energy minister said.

“When the incumbent government assumed office, no work had been done to upgrade the transmission system. We are now investing in the transmission and distribution system,” he added.

According to the latest announcement by the authorities: power had been restored to some areas of major cities such as Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi and some areas of Balochistan.
