Levies security personnel were injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on polio workers in Killi Hassan area of ​​Chaman.

According to Assistant Commissioner Chaman, Zakaullah Durrani, the incident took place on Sunday, Polio workers survived the attack.

Assistant commissioner added that unidentified gunmen opened fire on female polio workers working in the anti-polio campaign while they were administering anti-polio drops to children who were left behind during the campaign.

The assistant commissioner added that the armed assailants first opened fire on a Levies personnel guarding the women’s polio team. The attackers later opened fire on the female polio team, but they took refugee inside a house and remained safe.

The injured Levies officer has been identified as Mohammad Sadiq, who was shifted to the Civil Hospital Chaman and later to Quetta for first aid. Police has launched a search operation in the area to find the attackers.

Health department has postponed the polio campaign after the attacked.
