We need our loved ones back

By: Droshum Nasir Baloch

Baloch Students organization’s struggle means to secure students legal rights and protect their academic, cultural and political demands inside and outside of the campuses peacefully, democratically accordance to the Constitution, Law, and democratic values.

The chairman of Baloch students organization comrade Zarif Rind along with Secretary General Comrade Changez Baloch, Aurangzaib Baloch was abducted at Jinnah Road Quetta, When they were protesting and demanding for the safe recovery of their comrade Jiyand and his brother.

Baloch students Organization’s senior Joint secretary Comrade Jiyand and his younger brother comrade Hasnen Baloch were abducted a few days ago from their home in Quetta.

The abduction of peaceful, democratic and humanitarian activists is an extrajudicial act and violations of basic human rights.

What is worse than being born in a Baloch family?
What is more unfortunate than being a family member or a friend of a disappeared individual?
What is even more dreadful than not knowing where your loved ones are?

Enforced disappearances have started in Balochistan since 1999. The victims of such disappearance include journalists, students, peace activists, and other human rights defenders. A forced disappearance transpire when a person is secretly abducted or imprisoned by state officials and then deny it, or repudiate to say where they are held. The state officials grab the individuals from the street or from their homes without a warrant of arrest. Which makes the victim of enforcedly disappeared at high risk of torture since they are placed completely outside the protection of the law. And put them into the endangered situation and increases the risk of many human right violations including; right to security and dignity of a person, right of not to be tortured, right of victim to justice, right to a fair trial and right to LIFE.

Enforced disappearance is a crime under International and Humanitarian Law. It is considered a strategy to spread terror within society which doesn’t only limits this insecurity and fear of the close relatives of disappeared but also affects communities and societies as a whole.

The Government should address the issue of enforced disappearance as it is a matter of human rights.

We strongly appeal for the safe recovery of chairman BSO comrade Zarif Rind and his comrades Chnagez Baloch, Aurangzaib Baloch, Jiyand Baloch, and Hasneen Baloch.
