Coal mines took two more lives in Mach town as a mine was filled with poisonous gases on Sunday.

According to the details received by The Balochistan Post, two miners lost their lives due to suffocation inside a private coal mine in Mach town of Bolan district on Sunday.

The miners were working 100 feet below the surface inside a privately owned coal mine in Mach town.

The mine inspector Mr Abdul Rasheed told media that the mine was opened for the first time after the Eid vacations, and it was filled with poisonous gas due to inactivity.

“Mine owners started the work at the mines without authorization, even when ventilation system to remove gases and supply oxygen to the miners was present there, but they never started it, which caused this tragic incident”, said Mine Inspector Mr Abdul Rasheed.

Dead bodies of the miners were retrieved after several hours of a rescue operation.

Later, the miners were identified as Muhammad Haneef resident of Hazara Town Quetta and Muhammad GUI resident of Zhob.

Authorities sealed the mine after the incident.

Earlier last month, at least 18 people died in different accidents in the mining sector in Balochistan, out of which 15 died in an explosion in Quetta’s Sanjidi area.

Six miners got trapped in a mine last month. Whereas 2 mines collapsed and resulted in killing 23 miners in May this year in Bolan area of Balochistan.

Many international organisations working for worker rights have strongly condemned Pakistan for the complete absence of an effective occupational health and safety policy in the country, which has resulted in the deaths of a large number of workers in industries, particularly in coal mines.
