The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) has released a video showing members of its newly formed female armed unit, the Karima Armed Assault Division (KAAD), undergoing weapons and combat training, a day after announcing the unit’s first operation near Turbat.
The footage shows KAAD fighters dressed in military uniforms practising with heavy weapons, firing mortar rounds, throwing hand grenades and shooting at targets from moving vehicles. Members are also seen riding motorcycles and driving vehicles during the training.
The BLF announced KAAD on Tuesday after claiming responsibility for an attack on a Pakistani military convoy on the CPEC highway at Jusak, near Turbat.
BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch said several Pakistani military personnel were killed or wounded and that military vehicles were damaged in the attack.
The group said the ambush was KAAD’s first armed operation and that it would later release further details about the operation and the unit’s military objectives.
Pakistani authorities had not commented on the BLF’s claims at the time of publication.
The announcement of KAAD comes amid an increasingly visible role for women within Baloch armed groups.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) previously released footage of female commander Shaynaz Baloch, alias Sado, marking the first public appearance of a woman commander from the group.
Women were also seen participating on the front line during the BLA’s “Operation Herof II” this year, including in Quetta, Nushki, Gwadar and Pasni.
