Notorious Islamist and head of an extremist group Shafeeq Mengal is to contest elections in Balochistan.

According to The Balochistan Post correspondent, notorious head of Islamist group ‘Haq Na Tawar’ has planned to contest elections from PB 36 Soorab and Gidar in upcoming Pakistani general elections.

Shafeeq Mengal’s representative Manzoor Ahmed Gurganari obtained the nomination papers on his behalf.

Shafeeq Mengal, who gained notoriety after forming a local death squad against Baloch nationalist groups, has not been seen in public for few years now.

Baloch political organisatoins have alleged Pakistani state forces of backing Shafeeq Mengal and his armed group.

Shafeeq Mengal is also said to be behind the mass graves that were found in Tootak in January 2014.
