A man has shot and killed his daughter in an alleged honour-related incident in Naseerabad district of Balochistan.
According to reports, the incident took place in the jurisdiction of Tambo Babakot Police Station, in the Shahwani area of Naseerabad district. A man identified as Basham Khan allegedly opened fire on his daughter, referred to as (J), accusing her of “immoral conduct”. The suspect fled the scene after the shooting.
Police took the body into custody and shifted it to hospital. After the necessary procedures, the body was handed over to the family. A case has been registered, and police say efforts are underway to arrest the suspect.
Killings in the name of honour have become increasingly common in several districts of Balochistan, yet law enforcement agencies have so far failed to take effective measures to curb the trend.
According to a report released this year by the Aurat Foundation, 212 honour-related killings were reported in Balochistan between 2019 and 2024.
The report states that 52 people were killed in 2019, 51 in 2020, 24 in 2021 and 28 in 2022. The number stood at 24 in 2023, while 33 people, most of them women, were killed in 2024. Data for 2025 has not yet been included.
The report notes that Naseerabad recorded the highest number of such killings over this period. Other affected districts include Jaffarabad, Jhal Magsi, Mastung, Kachhi, Quetta, Kalat, Sohbatpur, Loralai and Khuzdar.
The findings express deep concern that in most cases the suspects are not arrested, or legal proceedings fail to move forward. Slow court processes, lack of police cooperation and political and tribal pressure remain major obstacles to justice.
