Levies personnel in Kalat held a protest demonstration against the Balochistan government’s decision to merge the Levies Force with the police department.

According to reports, the provincial government recently issued a notification announcing the merger, which has triggered widespread protests by Levies personnel across Balochistan.

In Kalat, members of the Levies Force organised a rally that began at the Levies Headquarters and passed through Shahi Bazaar, Hospital Road, Harboi Road, Darbar Road, and other main thoroughfares before returning to the headquarters.

Protesters carried placards rejecting the merger, with slogans opposing the integration of the Levies Force into the police.

Addressing the gathering, Levies officers and personnel said the force has a 142-year history and has played a key role in maintaining law and order across Balochistan, with many members having sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

They added that a similar merger attempt in the past had failed and warned that repeating the same move would again prove unsuccessful.

The speakers urged the Balochistan government to ensure full implementation of the High Court’s stay order on the merger and to immediately withdraw the recently issued notification.
